Try to Understand the Assumptions You Make

Understanding Assumptions

Try to Understand the Assumptions You Make

Clients are surprised when they begin to unearth the origin of the choices they make daily and begin to understand the assumptions they make that direct some of these choices.

Assumptions can be helpful or not, depending on the circumstances.

You might have an assumption that you?ll never be able to learn how to swim and you?d be right if the circumstances didn?t change.

You have to look around and see what other factors are influencing the negative assumption.

For example, you may have been raised by a mother who was overly
cautious around water and didn?t let you experiment with swimming
so that you were unable to? form your own opinion.

But then, imagine a circumstance where learning to enjoy swimming
is a new assumption.

You could be influenced by the swaying palm trees and fresh papaya. The positive energy surrounding you from the happy swimmers enjoying the water.

Where and when did your negative assumption begin? Ask yourself this question and you may want to revise your thinking.
